Optimized for comfort and scenic beauty, this itinerary ensures a balanced pace that captures the essence of the mountains while maintaining high operational practicality for families, couples, and adventure seekers alike.

Day 1 Arrival in Chandigarh & Ascent to the Queen of Hills

Your Himalayan retreat begins with a professional pickup at Chandigarh Airport or Chandigarh Railway Station. This marks the start of your grand journey covering Chandigarh, Shimla, Kufri, Kullu Valley, Manali, and Solang Valley. From the well-planned avenues of the "City Beautiful," embark on a scenic ascent toward Shimla, the historic summer capital of British India. The drive winds through the Shivalik foothills, offering refreshing mountain air and views of verdant valleys. Upon arrival and check-in, spend your evening on the famous Mall Road. Experience the colonial-era charm of The Ridge, visit the iconic Christ Church, and explore the vibrant Lakkar Bazaar, where the town’s heritage comes to life under the evening mountain mist.

Day 2 Kufri Highlands & Shimla’s Colonial Legacy

Head toward Kufri, a high-altitude resort town famous for its panoramic Himalayan vistas and dense cedar forests. At Mahasu Peak, witness the majestic snow-capped ranges of the inner Himalayas and enjoy the serene atmosphere of the Himalayan Nature Park. After a morning in the highlands, return to Shimla for a heritage exploration. Visit the Viceregal Lodge, a masterpiece of Scottish Baronial architecture that served as the seat of British power, and find spiritual peace at the Jakhoo Temple, situated atop Shimla’s highest peak with commanding views of the town below.

Day 3 The Scenic Riverside Drive: Shimla to Manali

Depart early for one of the most picturesque mountain drives in India. As you transition from the Shimla hills toward the Beas River valley, the route passes through the tranquil Sundernagar Lake and the impressive Pandoh Dam. En route, visit the Hanogi Mata Temple perched precariously against the cliffs. Enter the vibrant Kullu Valley, where the road runs parallel to the emerald waters of the Beas River, framed by apple orchards and steep slopes. Arrive in Manali by late evening, a town nestled in the heart of the snow-clad mountains, and unwind in the crisp Himalayan air.

Day 4 Manali Cultural Immersion & Old Manali Vibe

Explore the cultural soul of Manali starting with the 16th-century Hadimba Devi Temple, an ancient wooden structure nestled amidst the towering Dhungri Van Vihar forest. Visit the Vashisht Village, renowned for its heritage temples and natural sulfur hot springs known for their therapeutic properties. In the afternoon, transition to the bohemian charm of Old Manali. Wander through its narrow lanes filled with eccentric cafés, local artisan shops, and traditional wooden houses, offering a perfect blend of modern traveler culture and ancient Himalayan traditions.

Day 5 Solang Valley & High-Altitude Snow Experience

Proceed to Solang Valley, the adventure capital of the region, offering a wide array of activities from paragliding to zorbing against a backdrop of towering glaciers. Subject to weather conditions and local permissions, the journey can continue through the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel, leading into the stark, breathtaking landscapes of Sissu in Lahaul Valley. Alternatively, a visit to the historic Rohtang Pass (subject to permit availability) provides an unmatched snow experience at 13,050 feet. Return to Manali for a cozy evening, reflecting on the day’s high-altitude discoveries.

Day 6 Kullu Valley Rafting & Return to the Plains

Bid farewell to the high mountains as you descend toward the plains. Stop in the Kullu Valley for a final taste of adventure with white-water river rafting or a visit to the local shawl-weaving cooperatives, famous for their intricate geometric designs and fine wool. The journey continues toward Chandigarh, transitioning from the rugged mountain terrain back to the urban greenery of the Punjab plains. Check into your hotel for your final night, enjoying the comforts of the city after your mountain expedition.

Day 7 Final Departure from Chandigarh

After breakfast, enjoy a brief exploration of Chandigarh’s unique landmarks. Depending on your departure schedule, visit the world-renowned Rock Garden, crafted entirely from recycled materials, or take a peaceful stroll along the banks of Sukhna Lake. Destination Intelligence

The Himachal Travel Compass

Everything you need to know to plan your journey perfectly, from NGT Rohtang permits to high-altitude AC policies.

Seasonal Rhythms

Himachal Pradesh offers dramatically different experiences based on the season:

  • Summer (Apr-Jun): Peak season. Perfect escape from the plains. Clear skies and accessible mountain passes.
  • Winter (Dec-Feb): Ideal for snow lovers. Expect heavy snowfall in Kufri, Solang, and Manali.
  • Monsoon (Jul-Sep): Prone to landslides and roadblocks. Travel requires high caution and buffer days.

Rohtang Pass Permits

Visiting Rohtang Pass is strictly regulated to protect the fragile ecology:

  • NGT Rules: The National Green Tribunal heavily limits the daily number of vehicles entering Rohtang.
  • Local Taxis: Your private tour vehicle is often not permitted. You must hire a local Manali Union Taxi for this specific excursion.
  • Closed in Winter: The pass is completely closed from mid-November to May due to heavy snow.

Vehicle AC Policy

Mountain driving requires maximum engine power:

  • Steep Inclines: To prevent the engine from overheating and stalling on steep Himalayan ghats, the vehicle's AC will be switched off.
  • Natural Breezes: The mountain air is naturally cool and refreshing. Roll down your windows and enjoy the pure Himalayan breeze!

Altitude & Layering

Temperatures shift drastically depending on your elevation:

  • Shimla: Lower altitude. Light jackets suffice in summer, but heavy woolens are needed in winter.
  • Solang & Rohtang: High altitude. Even in peak summer, the winds near glaciers are freezing. Always pack a windbreaker or heavy jacket.

Adventure Activities

Kullu and Solang are adventure hubs, but safety comes first:

  • Kullu Rafting: A thrilling experience on the Beas River, but strictly dependent on water levels and government safety clearances.
  • Paragliding: Always insist on booking through registered and licensed operators in Solang Valley.

Culinary Expectations

Himachali food is simple, warm, and highly comforting:

  • The Mall Road: Shimla's Mall Road offers excellent bakeries and cafes reminiscent of the British era.
  • Old Manali: Famous for its bohemian cafes serving excellent Israeli, Italian, and Continental food.
  • Local Himachali Dham: If possible, try the traditional vegetarian 'Dham' feast, cooked slowly over wood fires.
