Day 1 Arrival & The Legacy of Rabindranath Tagore
Arrive at Bolpur Shantiniketan Railway Station or proceed by road from Kolkata where assistance will be provided for your cultural journey into the heart of rural Bengal. This marks the beginning of your peaceful circuit exploring Bolpur, Visva-Bharati, Sonajhuri, Amar Kutir, Kopai River, Kankalitala, and Ballavpur. Begin your exploration of Shantiniketan, the world-famous cultural town founded by Maharshi Devendranath Tagore and later transformed into a global center of art, literature, and education by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. After a traditional Bengali lunch, explore the historic campus of Visva-Bharati University including the peaceful Uttarayan Complex where Tagore lived and wrote many of his masterpieces. Continue toward the elegant glass-paneled Upasana Griha known for its serene prayer atmosphere and later visit the culturally significant Rabindra Bhaban Museum showcasing manuscripts, artworks, photographs, and personal collections associated with Tagore’s life and philosophy. As evening descends, enjoy a quiet walk through the peaceful surroundings of Chatimtala amidst ancient trees and calm academic surroundings.
Day 2 Sonajhuri Forests, Baul Traditions & Rural Handicrafts
After breakfast, proceed into the rustic red-soil landscapes of Birbhum known for their unique rural charm and artistic heritage. Visit Amar Kutir, a renowned rural handicraft cooperative where local artisans continue crafting exquisite leather goods, Kantha embroidery textiles, bamboo crafts, and traditional Dokra metal art reflecting Bengal’s folk artistry. Later, spend time exploring the peaceful Sonajhuri Forest filled with red-earth trails, Sonajhuri trees, local craft stalls, and quiet countryside landscapes. If visiting on a Saturday, experience the vibrant Khoai Haat where local artisans, musicians, and craftsmen gather amidst the forest environment creating one of Bengal’s most unique cultural marketplaces. In the late afternoon, proceed toward the tranquil banks of the Kopai River where wandering Baul Singers perform soulful folk music rooted in spiritual philosophy and rural Bengali traditions. The peaceful riverside atmosphere combined with live Baul music creates one of the most authentic cultural experiences in Bengal.
Day 3 Sacred Kankalitala & Departure
After breakfast, proceed toward Kankalitala Temple, one of the revered 51 Shakti Peethas situated peacefully beside the Kopai River amidst serene natural surroundings and spiritual village landscapes. Guests interested in nature and wildlife may alternatively explore Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as the Deer Park, where peaceful forest trails offer opportunities to spot blackbucks, spotted deer, migratory birds, and native woodland vegetation. Later, return toward Bolpur Shantiniketan Railway Station or designated points for your onward departure, taking home the poetic and peaceful essence of your Shantiniketan heritage retreat.
