Day 1 Arrival in Calicut & Scenic Drive to Wayanad
Arrive at Calicut International Airport or Kozhikode Railway Station where assistance will be provided for your Northern Kerala expedition. This marks the beginning of your breathtaking circuit covering Calicut, Wayanad, Muthanga, Kannur, Bekal, and Valiyaparamba. Begin the spectacular ascent toward Wayanad through the famous Thamarassery mountain pass featuring dramatic valleys, dense forests, waterfalls, and nine scenic hairpin bends overlooking the Western Ghats. Upon arrival, check into your nature resort surrounded by coffee plantations, spice gardens, forests, and mist-covered hills. Spend the evening relaxing amidst the peaceful mountain atmosphere and cool highland climate of Wayanad.
Day 2 Edakkal Caves, Waterfalls & Plantation Trails
After breakfast, proceed toward the historic Edakkal Caves, one of South India’s most important prehistoric archaeological sites. A scenic uphill trek leads toward the natural rock shelters containing ancient petroglyphs and carvings believed to date back thousands of years. The elevated viewpoint surrounding the caves offers breathtaking panoramas of Wayanad’s valleys, forests, and mountain ranges. Later, visit the spectacular Soochipara Falls cascading dramatically through dense forest terrain and rocky cliffs. Conclude the day with a guided walk through aromatic spice and coffee plantations where guests may learn about pepper, cardamom, coffee, vanilla, and traditional plantation cultivation techniques. Return to the resort for an evening amidst tranquil mountain surroundings.
Day 3 Wildlife Safari & Coastal Descent to Kannur
Wake up early for a thrilling wildlife safari experience inside Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve ecosystem. Traverse forest trails and grassland zones known for wild elephant herds, gaurs, deer, monkeys, rich birdlife, and occasionally predators within the dense forest habitat. After breakfast, check out and descend from the mountains toward the Malabar Coast and the historic coastal city of Kannur. Check into your heritage beach resort or seaside property and relax amidst the Arabian Sea atmosphere. In the evening, enjoy a peaceful walk along Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach, India’s longest drive-in beach known for its wide sandy coastline and spectacular sunsets.
Day 4 Theyyam Rituals & Fort Heritage of Kannur
Today is dedicated to the unique ritual culture of the Malabar region. Visit a traditional local shrine or Kaavu to witness the extraordinary Theyyam ritual performance. Theyyam combines elaborate costumes, vibrant face painting, fire rituals, music, dance, mythology, and spiritual traditions deeply rooted within Northern Kerala’s indigenous culture. Later, proceed toward the historic St. Angelo Fort built by the Portuguese overlooking the Arabian Sea and Moppila Bay. Explore the fortifications, coastal bastions, historic architecture, and scenic ocean viewpoints associated with Kerala’s colonial maritime history. Spend the evening enjoying authentic Malabar cuisine and coastal cultural experiences.
Day 5 Bekal Fort & Arrival in Kasaragod
After breakfast, continue northward along Kerala’s scenic coastal highway toward Kasaragod. Proceed directly toward the magnificent Bekal Fort, the largest fort in Kerala dramatically positioned beside the Arabian Sea. Built in the 17th century, the fort complex features massive laterite ramparts, watchtowers, observation points, hidden tunnels, and panoramic coastal views. Walk along the fort walls while enjoying spectacular sea breezes and breathtaking landscapes where the fort rises directly above the coastline. Check into your luxury beach resort in Bekal and spend the evening relaxing amidst peaceful coastal surroundings.
Day 6 Valiyaparamba Backwaters & Coastal Leisure
Experience the quieter and less commercialized backwater systems of Northern Kerala. Proceed for a peaceful cruise through the scenic Valiyaparamba Backwaters surrounded by coconut islands, fishing villages, estuaries, mangroves, and calm inland waterways. Unlike the busy backwaters of South Kerala, this region offers crowd-free tropical serenity and untouched coastal village landscapes. Spend the afternoon at leisure enjoying the resort ambiance, optional Ayurvedic therapies, beach relaxation, or a quiet walk along the secluded Kappil Beach. Conclude the evening with authentic Malabari seafood cuisine and sunset views over the Arabian Sea.
