Day 1 Arrival in Dibrugarh & Assam Tea Estate Experience
Arrive at Dibrugarh Airport where assistance will be provided for your Upper Assam tea and heritage expedition. This marks the beginning of your grand circuit covering Dibrugarh, Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, and Majuli. Proceed toward your heritage tea estate bungalow or premium hotel surrounded by the endless green landscapes of Assam’s world-renowned tea gardens. Known as the “Tea City of India,” Dibrugarh forms the heart of Assam’s global tea industry and offers a unique blend of colonial plantation heritage, river valley landscapes, and Assamese culture. After relaxation, enjoy a guided walk through the tea gardens while observing the intricate tea plucking process and the scenic beauty of the manicured plantation landscapes. In the evening, experience a curated Assamese tea tasting session introducing the flavors and characteristics of Assam CTC and orthodox tea varieties followed by a peaceful dinner amidst the plantation surroundings.
Day 2 Dibru-Saikhowa River Safari & Wetland Wilderness
After breakfast, proceed toward Guijan Ghat for an exciting river safari experience through Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, one of Northeast India’s most unique riverine biosphere reserves. Unlike conventional wildlife parks, Dibru-Saikhowa is best explored through motorized country boats navigating wetlands, river channels, marshes, and floodplain islands formed by the Brahmaputra River system. Cruise through the scenic Maguri Motapung Beel known for migratory birds, wetland ecosystems, and rare wildlife sightings. Keep your cameras ready for the endangered Gangetic River Dolphin, migratory bird species, and the region’s famous feral horses grazing freely across the grassland islands. Return toward Dibrugarh by evening and enjoy a peaceful overnight stay amidst Assam’s tea garden landscapes.
Day 3 Ahom Kingdom Heritage & Transfer to Jorhat
After breakfast, begin the scenic drive toward Sivasagar, the historic capital of the powerful Ahom Kingdom that ruled Assam for nearly six centuries. Explore the magnificent Rang Ghar regarded as Asia’s oldest surviving amphitheater and admired for its unique Ahom-era architecture. Continue toward the sprawling underground palace complex of Talatal Ghar known for its military tunnels, royal chambers, and fortified design. Later, visit the towering Shiva Dol, one of India’s tallest Shiva temples situated beside the scenic Sivasagar tank. After exploring the royal heritage of Upper Assam, continue toward Jorhat and check into your heritage tea bungalow surrounded by lush plantation landscapes.
Day 4 Hoolock Gibbon Sanctuary & Tea Research Heritage
Begin the day early with a drive toward Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, India’s only protected forest reserve dedicated to the conservation of the endangered Hoolock Gibbon — the country’s only ape species. Accompanied by local naturalists, explore the dense rainforest canopy through guided forest walks while listening to the haunting calls of gibbons echoing across the sanctuary. The forest also supports Bengal Slow Lorises, hornbills, macaques, and rich birdlife amidst dense tropical vegetation and wet evergreen forest landscapes. After returning to Jorhat, proceed toward the renowned Tocklai Tea Research Institute, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious tea research centers dedicated to tea cultivation science and plantation innovation. Spend the evening relaxing amidst the quiet plantation atmosphere of Upper Assam.
Day 5 Majuli River Island & Neo-Vaishnavite Heritage
After breakfast, drive toward Neemati Ghat and board a ferry across the mighty Brahmaputra River toward Majuli, recognized as the world’s largest inhabited river island. Majuli is globally admired for its Neo-Vaishnavite monastic culture, tribal heritage, riverine landscapes, and traditional Assamese art forms. Explore several historic Sattras where monks preserve centuries-old traditions of devotional music, classical dance, manuscript art, and mask-making associated with Assamese Vaishnavite culture. Visit traditional Mishing tribal villages known for their stilt houses, weaving traditions, bamboo craftsmanship, and riverside rural lifestyle. Witness the peaceful Brahmaputra island atmosphere before boarding the return ferry toward Jorhat for your final overnight stay.
Day 6 Departure from Upper Assam
Enjoy a final relaxed “Planter’s Breakfast” amidst the tea garden surroundings before checkout. Depending on departure schedules, guests may enjoy last-minute shopping for premium Assam tea, local handicrafts, or Assamese souvenirs.
