Day 1 Arrival in Guwahati & Transfer to Manas National Park

Arrive at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport or Guwahati Railway Station where assistance will be provided for your Western Assam wildlife expedition. This marks the beginning of your breathtaking circuit covering Guwahati, Manas National Park, Mathanguri, and Hajo. Begin the scenic drive westward toward Manas National Park through lush tea estates, Assamese countryside, river plains, and traditional Bodo tribal settlements. Situated along the foothills of Bhutan, Manas National Park is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and forms one of India’s most ecologically rich tiger reserves known for its untouched wilderness and exceptional biodiversity. Upon arrival near the Bansbari safari zone, check into your jungle lodge surrounded by forest landscapes and Himalayan foothill scenery. In the late afternoon, enjoy a guided exploration of nearby tea estates or local Bodo villages where guests may experience Assamese tribal culture, traditional weaving techniques, and peaceful rural surroundings.

Day 2 Manas National Park Safari & Mathanguri Wilderness

Wake up early for a thrilling Elephant Safari or Jeep Safari through the grasslands and forest corridors of the Bansbari Range. The dramatic wilderness of Manas combines riverine forests, elephant grass plains, tropical forests, and Himalayan foothill landscapes creating one of India’s finest wildlife ecosystems. Keep your cameras ready for sightings of Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros, Asiatic elephants, wild water buffalo, swamp deer, and the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger. Later, proceed deeper into the reserve toward Mathanguri located beside the crystal-clear Manas River marking the international border between India and Bhutan. The scenic river valley, forested hills, and peaceful wilderness atmosphere make Mathanguri one of the most breathtaking sectors of Manas. Wildlife enthusiasts may also spot the extremely rare Golden Langur along with exotic birdlife and rare endemic species found across the Manas biosphere region. Return to the lodge by evening for leisure amidst the untouched forest environment.

Day 3 Hajo Heritage Circuit & Brahmaputra Sunset Cruise

After breakfast, check out and begin the return drive toward Guwahati. En route, stop at the historic heritage town of Hajo, one of Northeast India’s most spiritually significant multi-faith pilgrimage destinations where Hindu, Buddhist, and Islamic traditions coexist harmoniously. Visit the sacred Hayagriva Madhava Temple admired for its ancient temple architecture and religious importance to both Hindus and Buddhists. Continue toward the revered Powa Mecca, an important Islamic pilgrimage site believed to hold spiritual significance equivalent to one-fourth of a pilgrimage to Mecca. Upon arrival in Guwahati, check into your hotel before proceeding for a peaceful sunset cruise along the mighty Brahmaputra River witnessing panoramic city views, river islands, and the dramatic evening atmosphere of Assam’s legendary river.

Day 4 Kamakhya Temple & Departure

After breakfast, proceed toward the sacred Kamakhya Temple situated atop Nilachal Hill overlooking the Brahmaputra River. Recognized as one of India’s most important Shakti Peethas, the temple is deeply revered for its Tantric traditions, spiritual significance, and panoramic hilltop setting. Guests may also enjoy sweeping views of Guwahati city and the Brahmaputra Valley from the surrounding viewpoints. Destination Intelligence

The Lower Assam Compass

Everything you need to know to plan your journey perfectly, from border safari logistics to ancient temple queues.

Seasonal Park Closures

Wildlife tourism in Assam is strictly regulated by nature:

  • Monsoon Shutdown: Manas National Park is completely closed to tourists from May to October due to heavy monsoon rains and terrain protection protocols.
  • Winter (Nov-Mar): The absolute best time for safaris. Crisp mornings and active wildlife sightings.

Safari Permit Protocols

Securing the best wildlife experiences requires planning:

  • Elephant Safaris: Highly limited. They are allocated strictly on a first-come, first-serve basis by the forest department.
  • ID Required: Original, valid physical Govt IDs are mandatory to enter the forest gates. No ID, no safari.

Mathanguri Border Reality

A spectacular landscape with strict geographical limits:

  • The Bhutan Border: Mathanguri sits exactly on the international border line. You will view the Royal Manas National Park of Bhutan directly across the river, but crossing is strictly prohibited.

Hajo Multi-Faith Etiquette

Hajo is a unique melting pot of religions:

  • Respectful Conduct: You will visit both Hindu/Buddhist (Hayagriva Madhava) and Islamic (Powa Mecca) sacred sites. Modest clothing covering shoulders and knees is strongly advised for both.

Kamakhya Darshan Logistics

One of India's most powerful Shakti Peethas:

  • Long Queues: General Darshan can take 3 to 6 hours depending on the crowd. We advise scheduling your flight departures keeping this heavy buffer in mind.
  • Footwear: You will need to leave your shoes outside for extended periods. Slip-on shoes are ideal.

Jungle Etiquette & Clothing

Blend in with the forest environment:

  • Colors: Strictly wear muted, earth tones (khaki, olive, brown) to avoid agitating the wildlife.
  • Golden Langur: Bring a good pair of binoculars to spot the elusive, endangered Golden Langur high in the canopy.
